We all lead busy lives and few people have the time for cutting grass, pruning plants, weeding and treating fence panels after a long day at work. Here are a just few ideas for you to think about for your new low maintenance garden: If you currently have fencing, are they lap panels (wood slats run horizontal) or featheredge panels (wood slats run vertical)? Featheredge panels last 10 years longer than lap panels because they are a lot stronger. They are also pressure-treated which means you will never have to treat them every year. Is more than a third of your garden turfed? If so then depending on the size of your garden, you probably spend more time cutting grass than enjoying sitting in your garden. In low maintenance gardens, at least two thirds of the garden should be hard landscaped in a combination of e.g. paving, stone, gravel, and timber. You can still have plants in a low maintenance garden. What is important is that a planting scheme is made up of plants, that are suited to your soil and will look after themselves with very little or no maintenance required.
