Garden makeover with raised beds and pergola
I would highly recommend Shropshire Garden Design for anyone wanting a garden makeover large or small. Steve, Bob and the team did an amazing job transforming our new build plain back garden into something rather special.
The costs are clearly laid out with no hidden extras. Once underway they will happily change the design if you feel something is not quite to your liking.
Their workmanship is to a very high standard and they work methodically to ensure all aspects are correctly completed. They also bring all their own facilities including toilet. After each day they leave access driveways completely clean, to the point you wouldn't know they had been onsite.
A very professional and friendly team. We are delighted with the finished design.

Tiered garden makeover with Indian sandstone,and raised beds and large bespoke pergola

We just wanted to let you know how extremely pleased we have been with all the work you and the guys have undertaken for us.
The garden has had a real transformation and the advice you have given us in terms of design, materials, costs and timescales has been spot on.
We have been particularly impressed with the way you all have treated the garden as you would your own. Garden makeover and block pave drive
Dear Steve
Jill and I would like to place on record our sincere and grateful thanks to you, Bob and the two lads for the fantastic job you recently completed for us. Our crumbling paved rear patio and steps were replaced, raised, extended and transformed - the Indian Stone looks amazing - and the old front paved drive and pathway were removed and replaced with stunning paviours and edging stones.
Whilst not included in the original budget and work schedule, you also removed the moss-ridden front lawn and replaced this with gravel and a focal point raised bed made from sleepers. It all looks amazing and has been the source of many admiring comments from friends and neighbours.
You also returfed part of our rear lawn, which again was moss-ridden, and, finally, replaced our ageing rear decking area with new quality decking boards - adding a lovely wicket fence to complete the transformation.
You were with us for the best part of weeks and it was a pleasure having you here to do the work for us. Naturally, one or two issues cropped up during the project, but these were quickly highlighted and discussed with us.
We cannot praise the standard of work highly enough, and we would recommend you to anyone who is looking for a first class and totally professional job to be undertaken

Small low maintenance garden makeover for new build
The work carried out on our garden by Shropshire Garden Design has been of excellent quality and was completed on time and under budget.
From the first contact Steve and the team have provided a friendly, efficient, punctual and professional service and have turned our small �new build� garden into another living space of our house which will require very little maintenance from us whilst providing an attractive and adaptable space.
It is true to say that Shropshire Garden Design�s quote was not the cheapest we got for the work but the thought that went into the design along with the quality of workmanship and materials used has provided us with excellent value for our money.
Steve took the time to meet us at the stone merchant�s premises to personally show us the options available to us, he also brought material samples to our house to choose in the evenings to suit our busy working lives.
Steve & Bob were able to adapt the work to be carried out as they went along, particularly providing a large drain once it was realised that this was required due to the underlying clay in the garden � this work was completed within the original labour estimate and with minimal extra materials costs. As we were not present at the time we were sent photos to show us the work that had been done.
The work area was left clean and tidy at the end of each day and was spotless at the end of the project.
We would recommend Shropshire Garden Design to any of our friends and family should they require landscaping work.

Garden Makeover featuring large Indian sandstone patio
Steve and Bob have created a garden which is now a calm and relaxing place. My existing garden was a “busy” hotch potch of gravel and brick structures with the garden shed stuck in front of the utility window and a pergola that both blocked out the light and obstructed the view of the garden through the patio doors.
My garden makeover was described as being not too technically demanding but it was a lot of hard work to remove what was there. Although the garden slopes in two directions the levels are perfect, including the sandstone patio and paths.
Working with Shropshire Garden Design was an incredibly easy, fun and stress less experience. Above all, they wanted to ensure the customer was totally satisfied with the end result.
At commencement I had a fairly clear idea of what I wanted to achieve and was able to send Steve an outline brief to give a start point. The project though evolved both before and while on site, with Steve building a lovely little path to the relocated garden shed. They go the extra mile and more.
I now look onto an open space of living grass and plants. I am writing this a few months after the work was completed and I cannot thank Shropshire Garden Design enough for their wise advice, suggestions and for what they achieved. It is a wonderful garden.

Garden Makeover following excavation of sloping garden
Our garden sloped significantly and we found it to be unusable.
We approached Shropshire Garden Design who worked with our ideas to design a large, flat and useable patio style garden which includes a garden pond.
The removal and disposal of the soil and the laying of the patio was completed efficiently in a tidy manner with the site left secure overnight.

Garden Makeover featuring large tiered patio
We have recently had a garden makeover carried out by Shropshire Garden Design.
From the outset of the process, when we met Steve for an initial consultation, we felt confident that we were dealing with someone with integrity who would listen to our ideas and offer guidance and advice.
We were provided with a detailed breakdown of the work to be undertaken and are so glad we decided to proceed.
Our confidence from that initial meeting proved to be well founded when we met Bob who like Steve put us at our ease about what we were having done in the garden.
The team, including the young lads worked efficiently. They always cleared away at the end of the day and were a pleasure to have around.
Throughout the process Steve and Bob made sure we knew exactly what they were doing and why. This was reassuring as the garden is relatively large and ever likely to throw up some unexpected challenges, which it did! Typical of Steve and Bob's approach when faced with something we'd not anticipated was to talk it through with us calmly and find a solution. What more could we ask for?
The main work involved laying a large patio on two levels, reinstating a pond and rockery, and redesigning an area at the bottom of the garden which was unused except for a dilapidated shed!
We are delighted with the garden makeover which was finished to schedule despite a couple of days lost to persistent rain!
We now feel we have a patio that we can enjoy and a pond and rockery which we will take pleasure in replanting. The area at the bottom of the garden has been transformed into an attractive asset rather than somewhere to avoid.
It's not just the quality of the garden makeover that has left us so pleased. Or the fact we were kept informed at every step by Steve and Bob, that made us feel confident in their work. It was all the little extras as well, which they did without hesitation, that made us feel so pleased about the finished project.
They work with good humour, honesty and professionalism and we would not hesitate to recommend them to others.

Sleeper retainer construction and tiering
Having recently undergone two projects with Shropshire Garden Design, I feel I should write a testimonial to express my thoughts on their efforts.
My main project was to convert a deeply sloped hill garden, into a low maintenance tiered area which was safely accessible and moreover, useable. The project was likely to be challenging and required engineering and executing with a high degree of skill. The final results exceeded my wishes and I am happy I chose this team.
From the outset I struggled to find a person or team to undertake the main part of my garden rebuild. Several companies were researched and the results and quotes were vastly variable. By the time I researched Shropshire Garden Design I was becoming familiar with poor responses and failed appointments. To my great surprise I started with a prompt and enthusiastic response, an initial appointment with Steve which reinforced my thoughts that I may have finally found a team who were capable of delivering. Further contacts were dealt with by e-mails and calls efficiently and appropriately. I was also in consultation with Bob & Steve prior to a final agreement being reached.
On meeting the ‘team’ I was reassured of a good mix of experience and capability. It is comforting to feel you can rely on the team you have employed to do a large project throughout its completion. During the process they kept me informed and discussed with me any changes they thought could improve the overall project outcome.
They have a thoroughly professional approach and a justifiable pride in their work. They were going to have to create a substantial amount of disruption and mess to achieve this project. They applied protective sheets and boards to my existing hardscape, they stacked equipment tidily and safely at the end of each day’s work. The overall disruption I felt by their presence was minimal considering the size of the project.
They were extremely punctual to the point I felt I could set my clock by their arrival each day. One of the things I noticed about their arrival and presence after just a short time was, it felt my friends had come to do my garden. I quickly developed a bond with the team, which made the whole process much less stressful – in fact I can happily say I enjoyed having them to accompany me through this project.
Guys, thank you and well done. You’ve achieved something which I am extremely pleased with, it was a long time in planning and was executed to schedule and budget with expert precision.

Garden Makeover
We called in Steve, Bob and the team to tackle our garden, which was a mammoth task. Having used these guys a few times before with exceptional results, it was an easy decision.
Our garden was a mess of tree routes, crazy paving, and wonky ground. It sloped down towards the house which meant we were soaking up the rain. With no access for heavy gear, the guys somehow breezed through it; clearing the lot, re-levelling it and putting in a second level for a bit of character.
We had a rough design we were going for, but Steve managed to take it and develop it into something much more creative. Adding in features and shapes that really make it stand out. The results speak for themselves.
I cannot say enough about how good these guys are. You can sit back in confidence knowing they will crack on and deliver fantastic results. They're a friendly bunch too! They've managed to keep my attached neighbour happy, clearing up as they go along. They even bring their own loo!
No need to look elsewhere; book these guys (if you're lucky enough to get a slot!). Job done.

Drainage Work
Hi Steve,
Just thought I'd mention how we can't get over how brilliant the drainage is. Last Saturday is an example, it absolutely threw it down with rain and yet everywhere was dry in no time.
Sandra cut the lawn on the Sunday, but before you did the makeover, we wouldn't have been able to walk on it for a week, let alone cut it!

Garden Makeover
Hi Steve,
We just want to pass on our thanks for the fantastic job that you, Bob and the team did in transforming our garden. From the initial meeting with you, we could tell how professional your set up was and we didn't need to look anywhere else. We certainly made the right choice.
We were so fortunate to have 3 weeks of warm excellent weather, without any rain (in April!) and while this was very welcome for us, it was energy sapping for you guys but you all worked non-stop.
The whole team were courteous, pleasant and at times very funny.... Now to the work!
With having a lot of clay in our garden, your mini digger made light work of clearing the bulk in the bottom area of the garden where, after a lot of manual graft, you then laid a base for a new shed and a patio with Indian sandstone paving.
We were very impressed at the depth of the footings that were laid for the retaining walls.
We also liked the consultation as the garden was taking shape, for example, suggesting having wide steps and then saying that the wall ends would be complimented by having pier caps, which we agreed with and are pleased that we did.
Moving up to and alongside the house, the Indian sandstone paving was laid perfectly as were the brick pillars which were built at the front (for a gate) where block paving was then laid, to tie in with the drive, separated by a nice stepped wall.
Each morning you explained what would be done during the day and at the end of each day everywhere was left tidy.
This email doesn't do justice to you guys for the enormous amount of preparation and hard work that went into our garden makeover and we would have no hesitation in recommending Shropshire Garden Design.

Garden Makeover
Steve, Bob, Matt and Will,
Just wanted to say a big thank for the fantastic work that you did on our garden.
We now have a low maintenance garden that we can use all year around and can't wait for the Summer to arrive. It is looking fantastic and we haven't even begun to add our finishing touches to it yet.
We were very impressed with you workmanship and professionalism from the initial meeting right through to the end. As it started to take shape we were very happy with the guidance and updates on the day by day progress, it is very refreshing to find craftsmen that care so much about their work.
Although the weather was pretty mixed with snow, rain, wind and the cold none of the team gave in to the elements and you kept to the estimated time scales and costs, even when you had to bring in the big guns (digger) to finish the groundwork.
We thought the whole process was very smooth and you were all easy to get on with, no arguments or conflicting opinions which is your worst nightmare as a customer.
You were our first, and only choice from recommendations and good feedback from previous customers and if anyone was to ask me for the name of a landscaping service I would not hesitate in giving them your details.

Large Patio and Drive finished in Setts
Shropshire Garden Design have recently completed a month’s work for us.
They laid a large patio area at the rear of our house with a raised bed at the one end and fencing along the whole length.
The area first had to be cleared, including an old conservatory base, large shrubs dug up and re-planted elsewhere and old tree roots removed.
Also, they laid a new drive area to the front of the house with another raised bed area.
The plot slopes considerably creating awkward issues with levels and drainage but none of this was a problem for the team.
From the outset, Steve & Bob spent a lot of time with us discussing our requirements and advising us of the best materials to use etc. This was before we had even committed to the work.
Telephone calls and e-mails were always returned promptly and we were always kept informed about what was going on.
The team were very easy to work with, open to discussions and ideas, very polite and considerate towards us and our neighbours.
They are completely self-sufficient when working at your property and they did their very best to complete the work with as little inconvenience to us as possible.
We are extremely pleased with the finished job and the way it was carried out.
The workmanship is of a very high standard with great attention to detail.

Garden Makeover & Block Paved Drive
The Shropshire Garden Design team have completed two projects for us this year.
The first was the creation of a block paved parking area and reshaping of the planting bed at the front of our property. This was completed early in the year; it transformed the appearance of our house and made our parking arrangements much easier.
We were so impressed with the team's work that we decided to take the plunge and get our large rear garden 'sorted. We came up with a draft of our own design which Steve and Bob then helped us to achieve by advising on options and improvements to make the end result even better.
This was a major project involving a new wall for a raised bed, sets to form paths and a patio, a rockery, some hard standing and a shaped lawn with mowing edge all around it. After clearing a very overgrown, weedy area many tons of extra soil had to be brought in to raise the level of the plot which had previously always been water logged in bad weather. They even manufactured a new metal framed / sleeper bridge for our stream to ease access to the end of the garden.
We could not be more impressed and have gone from avoiding the garden to absolutely loving being out there as it is a pleasure to look after rather than chore it used to be.
The whole Shropshire Garden Design Team are a pleasure to have around, they are completely self-sufficient meaning that you do not have to be there all the time so long as they have access to water and power (they even bring their own tea making supplies with them!). They are also very hard working and stick to an agreed budget even if the weather intervenes and makes the job much longer to complete – they really do want to ensure a quality job rather than rush things.
We are already planning to get them back to help us improve the layout and access to our veggie garden.

Garden Makeover

Weare very pleased with the garden. The whole process from initial conversations to final completion was very smooth and professional. The early consultation helped us to establish the design in our minds, and we were grateful that the design was allowed to evolve and change slightly as the work progressed. You were very accommodating when we decided we wanted more grass and less flower bed once the lines had been drawn out!
We were partcularly impressed with how tidily the work was carried out. Bringing your own portaloo meant that your workmen did not have to trail through the house, and the one trip inside each day to plug in the extension lead (for your power tools and kettle) and to attach the hose to the utility room tap was considerately done with the removal of boots. The drive was washed down at the end of the day and the tools left tidy. All of your workers were notably considerate.
Workmanship was to a consistently high standard, and the quality of materials was also high. Owing to the heavy rain, the pointing of the patio had to wait for a fine day. This meant that you had already had to move on to your next customer, but you did not rush the finishing of our work, you waited until the conditions were right before returning to finish off the patio properly.
It was a big job, and took 4 men 3 weeks to complete (with a few rain delays!), we felt that in view of the number of man hours the cost was reasonable. The garden has been transformed. All of the overgrown shrubs, uneven lawn, tumbledown shed and ugly patio have been removed and replaced with a beautiful new patio, levelled out lawns, retaining sleepers and new beds as well as a new hard standing for a new shed tucked around the corner, and some unexpected emergency fence replacement.
We are now enjoying planning the new planting which we hope to undertake ourselves this spring. You have given us a lovely canvas on which to work.

Tiered Garden Makeover

I have headed this email 'patio makeover' but that really is an understatement. You and your team have done a wonderful job in rebuilding my patio, making the top level safe and secure for when my grandchild plays out in the garden, and making a lower level that provides room for planters, patio furniture etc. Not only does it look good but with the use of sleepers for the retaining walls it looks great when you are in the garden looking back at the house.
I appreciated how you suggested ideas that kept the job within my budget without compromising quality and still achieved what I wanted. I have had lots of good comments about it.

Drainage work and Garden Makeover

Finding good tradesman is often a frustrating and disappointing process but the guys from Shropshire Garden Design have been a joy to work with and prove that excellent companies do exist.
I bought a house with large neglected gardens a few years ago and I have used them on several occasions for a variety of big landscaping and paving projects and I always enjoy working with them.

Garden Makeover & Drive Renovation
We engaged Steve from Shropshire Garden Design to carry out some fairly extensive remodelling of our drive, front garden, rear garden and patio. From the outset we liked Steve's approach, his ideas and his obvious expertise. However, what marked Steve out for us was his evident focus on delivering what the customer wanted. During a time when it was obvious that the works would incur some fairly major expenditure, the last thing we wanted was to feel that we'd spent a lot of money without achieving the best we could.
We both appreciated Steve's attention to detail, from turning up for the appointments on time for us to discuss ideas, to the suggestions he made as the work progressed. I am pleased to say that Shropshire Garden Design's vision is very firmly to deliver what the customer wants, even if the customer changes their mind along the way.
The team were all punctual, well-mannered, respectful of our property and extremely professional. The workmanship was of a very high standard, again showing attention to detail. Inevitably, as small issues arose, we were able to discuss them and there was a no quibble policy employed by SGD - they were as keen as we were to achieve the best result possible.
Any number of contractors can be engaged to deliver the work involved - but a proportion of these (I suspect a small proportion) would go the extra mile to make the customer feel important, respected and in charge of the overall outcome by giving them the freedom to explore options without a negative response, or worse, one which would only entertain adopting such improvements at extra cost - Steve was extremely fair-minded in every aspect of these changes, as his priority was to please us as customers.
As a result I would have no hesitation in recommending Shropshire Garden Design, and my wife and I would employ their services again without hesitation.

Pond build
Dear Steve
The pond is completely full now and looking pretty good.
It took until last Monday night (that's about 13.5 days!!) of continual running of water from our bore hole through 2 half inch hoses day and night!! Bit worrying but the little pump never missed a beat and we still have water running out of the taps!
I have attached a few photos to show the finished / full pond.
I am pleased with the outcome of the project and thanks to you, Bob and your guys for that.
We didn't have any luck really with the weather, but I am now looking forward to getting the area seeded, the pond planted up and putting some fish in there.

New Lawn

Garden Makeover (Paving Areas, Raised beds, Large Pergola)
The Shropshire Garden Design team are first class, providing quality workmanship and fantastic attention to detail.
We landscaped our garden with our one year old daughter in mind.. it had to be safe. Throughout the duration of the project the team kept this in mind and continuously updated the finer details to make sure our finished garden was a safe place to be.

Garden Makeover (New patio, New lawn, Raised beds, Water feature)
From the first time I contacted Steve at Shropshire Garden Design until the conclusion of the makeover, they were responsive and listened to all my queries and suggestions which helped us both work through to the final design of which my wife and I are absolutely delighted. (Please refer to the before and after pictures).
They turned up on the agreed date and time and actually finished ahead of schedule! They were completely self-sufficient requiring no access to the house (it was an unusual feeling not making lots of cups of tea!) and kept any mess to the bare minimum with any waste removed as required. On completion of the makeover, the hard standing areas were power washed with no mess left whatsoever.
On the financial aspect, it was refreshing not having to pay an initial “up-front” deposit as well as not underestimating the saving of the company not being VAT registered. The original figure quoted, was also the final figure with no hidden extras “added on.”
Finally, now that the makeover has been completed, my wife and I can hand on heart say that it was a stress free experience, and in fact when Steve took us to the nursery to purchase our plants, (which he then brought back and planted for us) was a very enjoyable experience and one which Steve and his company made no profit from – it’s not often you can say that in this day and age!

Garden Makeover (Two tier patio, New paths, Raised beds, New lawn)

I have a bit more planting to do when finished, I was going to send you some photos of how the garden looks.
We're delighted with both the design and standard of workmanship of the front and the rear gardens. The turf has taken very well and when the kids were finally allowed to go on the grass, they have had a great time playing football etc.
We really appreciated the speed in which the work was completed. This enabled us to start enjoying our garden much sooner than anticipated. During the great weather in March, we got the garden furniture out and managed to sit out on the patio and soak up the sun.
Looking out on the garden now, it's incredible to think that just a few weeks ago, it was a wasteland.

Garden Makeover (New patio, Ground level beds, Pergola, Tree surgery, New lawn)
This is to let you know that we are very pleased with the outcome of the work you did for us at the end of last year.
The patio is such a vast improvement on what we had originally and the area has worked out very well.
We were able to re-plant all the roses and they are all thriving and most of the bulbs have also flowered well this spring but the most striking feature must be how well the new lawn has taken despite the weather conditions both before and after you laid it.
Thanks for your suggestions on design and layout, once we had taken down the conifers at the bottom of the garden there was certainly more scope and the garden area overall looks much bigger.
The pergola looks good, all we need now is to stop the pigeons sitting in the false acacia next door - we will then be able to eat out there in comfort, i don`t want to have to wait until the wisteria are fully grown!

Garden Makeover (Retaining wall using sleepers, New patio, New lawn, Pond renovation)
Steve,
Now that the new plantings in our garden are becoming established we can honestly say that we are delighted with the work that Shropshire Garden Design have done for us.
Our original ideas were discussed before an overall plan was produced and were then fine tuned as the work proceeded.
The standard of work is really very good and the materials used were all of good quality.
On a personal note we found all of the team both polite and obliging - nothing was too much trouble and they worked well throughout the project.
When all of the work was completed we can say quite confidently that there is nothing that we would have had done differently.
