Sloping brick retaining wall and steps - Lilleshall, Shropshire
This 9" wall was built to replace an old sleeper retainer as Phase 1 of a larger garden makeover. The bricks were chosen to match the property and the wall was finished with a top course of solid blue brick.
The one side of the wall curves and slopes downwards, note the detail in the brickwork. This was a specialist job requiring a specialist bricklayer.
The first photo shows what the garden was like when we started.

Brick retaining wall and steps - Cleobury Mortimer, Shropshire
This 12 metre long wall curves into the central flight of steps. A 9 inch wall (double brick thickness) such as this one is necessary if the wall is being used to retain material behind it. Red engineering bricks were used for the main structure with 4 inch breeze blocks behind the facing brick (for added strength), and charcoal bricks were used as header brcks to match in with the brickwork of the house.

Small brick wall and steps - Telford, Shropshire
This small 4 inch wall defines the two levels of the garden and adds interest to the garden. On 4 inch walls, coping stones such as these are generally used. The steps were finished in the same slabs as the patio and path.

Strong 9 inch retaining wall - Madeley, Telford, Shropshire
A full 9 inch wall was used here to retain the soil behind the new patio. Header bricks were used to finish off the top of the wall. Note this wall was built in the middle of Winter. As long as the correct precautions against blistering are taken, there is no reason why brickwork cannot be done throughout the year.

4 inch brick wall - Hadley, Telford, Shropshire
This garden had a gentle slope but the customer wanted a flat decking area. Therefore we tieried the garden into two levels and built a small retaining wall. As well as using coping we also built small pillars and finished them with pier caps.

Multi coloured wall - Newport, Shropshire
The brickwork of this property had a very distinctive brickwork made up of five different types of brick. We found out exactly what bricks had been used for the house, sourced the bricks, and built their new garden wall to match perfectly with the house.

Decorative 9" wall - Telford, Shropshire
Although only a small bank, a 9" retaining wall was required for strength but the customer was concerned about how it would look and rightly thought that the 11" wide copers and pier caps sitting on top of the 9" wall would look too large.
Therefore we built a 9" wall up to the last but one course, and then built up the front as a 4" wall, with smaller copers and pier caps finishing it off. The back course of breezeblocks was therefore hidden so ended up with a strong 9" wall posing as a decorative 4" wall.
There is little we cannot do, there is always a way around a problem.

Garden wall - Wellington, Telford, Shropshire
This brick wall demonstrates one way of dealing with sloping ground. The wall can either be tiered or as in this example built in Wellington it can be sloped. Watch out for cowboy builders, there are plenty around. Shropshire Garden Design Ltd only use experienced bricklayers and the quality of our work speaks for itself.

Garden wall - Wem, Shropshire
This low decorative wall was built to add definition and dimension to the edge of a large seating area. The ground had very poor drainage so we installed drainage around the outside perimeter of the wall to take surface water from the footing.
The customer was really pleased and once the wall was finished, we went on to install the patio and further landscaping work in other areas of the garden.

Sandstone walling - Childs Ercall, Shropshire
This wall uses Bradstone natural sandstone walling. Every brick is a different size and shape and therefore the morter joints will never be even and are not meant to be. This is a natural material, and quite expensive but looks fantastic when built. Shropshire Garden Design used this walling product for this years show garden at Shrewsbury Flower Show and it was a hit with the judges and public alike.

Block and render wall with brick pillars - Telford, Shropshire
This property had an unstable brick wall that was close to collapsing. We demolished the old wall, installed new footings, and built a new wall from concrete blocks. This was then rendered and painted.
We then built two massive feature brick pillars either side of the main entrance.
The large pillar pier caps and wall coping were commissioned and manufactured to fit the dimensions required. These give the appearance of cut sandstone but are in fact made in moulds from concrete with a dye added. They certainly look the part.

Yorkstone barbecue - Telford, Shropshire
As well as garden/retaining walls, we can also build barbecues or indeed any structure you require. This Stonemarket Yorkstone walling is available in a variety of sizes and colours and is very versatile and hard-wearing. It does not take long to build a barbecue such as this one but bear in mind the walling blocks are a lot more expensive than conventional engineering bricks.
