Koi Pond Build - Shifnal, Shropshire

The brief was to build a fish pond close to the main patio but without taking up too much of the existing lawn. We took the shape of the current patio edge and built the pond to fit that shape so the pond looked as if it had been there from when the garden was designed.

The pond was dug to 4' deep and then the box structure was built up from sleepers to give a final water depth of 5'. Note the Tongue&Groove removable lid on the filter housing allowing easy access to the filter system and electrics with additional storage space.

We finished the job by installing a brick edging around the perimeter of the pond to act as a mowing strip.

Fish Pond and Waterfall - Whixall, Shropshire

This was an old pond in serious need of some TLC and the new owner was keen to bring the pond back to its former glory. The liner was leaking, the rocks had come loose and the pump and filter required a lot of maintenance.

We moved the fish to holding tanks and completely cleared the pond.

We then installed a new liner and completely rebuilt the rock perimeter. We also built a new much larger waterfall from new stone.

Finally we installed a new Oase pump and low maintenance gravity filter system to complete the transformation.

The fish are very happy in their new home.

Pond Renovation - Telford, Shropshire

The Before and After photos below say it all. This fish pond was in serious need of some TLC and we completed the job in just one day.

The decking around the perimeter had completely rotted and the banks either side were starting to cave in.

The fish and plants were moved into holding tanks and the pond emptied.

We removed the old decking and built up the sides of the pond so that it was level around the perimeter.

We then laid new paving slabs around the perimeter of the pond. As well as being a lot safer to walk on than wet decking, this gave the illusion that the pond was larger.

The pond was refilled and the fish and plants reintroduced into the pond.

What a difference a day makes!

Tiered Pond / Water Feature - Hinstock, Shropshire

The customer wanted a simple low maintenance pond close to the main patio so the sound of water could be heard.

We made use of the existing step up from the main patio to the lawn to create a tiered pond from new timber sleepers. The double drop of water created the sound of running water that was required and also oxygenated the water for the fish.

The pump installed circulates the water through a pressurised filter system that was hidden in an easy to access bay that we built within the structure.

Garden Pond and Stream - Roddington, Shropshire

This massive fish pond had a serious problem as it was losign several inches of water a day. The wrong kind of liner had been installed and it had not been installed correctly and there was a danger of the customer losing their fish.

We emptied the pond moving the fish to holding tanks and the pond was thoroughly cleaned. We then delivered and installed the huge Firestone Butyl liner (weighing in a half a tonne).

We then brought in 8 tonnes of green slate from a Welsh quarries to hold down the liner around the outside of the pond and create a stream running into the pond.

The stream itself was over 8m long and water was passed down the stream and over a large single piece of Welsh slate before entering the pond.

The pond is straddled by a timber bridge and flowering shrubs and perennials surround the pond in borders.

Fish Pond and Stream - Telford, Shropshire

We were called in to renovate a pond which was losing water. The existing sandstone stream was letting water seap away into the surrounding beds and the water level was dropping dangerously low for the fish.

We drained the pond, moved the fish to holding tanks and removed the existing rocks.

We brought in additional sandstone rock to create a stunning stream down beside a rockery, under a bridge and into a large 8m x 8m fish pond.

Building waterfalls and pond surrounds from rock is a professional job. If the rocks are not sited or mortored correctly, leaks will occur.

At the top of the stream a low maintenance filter was installed to complete the job.

Fish Pond and Stream - Shifnal, Shropshire

A small fish pond was required at the end of the garden. The customer wanted to retain some of the gravel area at the bottom for seating so we built a long narrow pond to fit the space required.

Red sandstone was used for this particular job. Once mortared and sealed and the pump was running, the red of the sandstone on the waterfall could fully be appreciated.

Heathers and alpines were planted either side of the waterfall and in the area next to the pond to finish the effect.

Water Feature / Fish Pond - Childs Ercall, Shropshire

If you cant decide whether to have a pond or a water feature then what about this idea?

We built a sandstone block wall around a patio and continued the wall in a quarter circle to form a very neat pond/water feature.

Being raised it is more child-friendly but it is wide enough and deep enough for small fish.

This design was a modification of the vote winning design we used at the 2006 Shrewsbury Flower Show. Click here for the photos.

Large Fish Pond - Prees, Shropshire

This was one of the larger pond builds we have undertaken. The customer wanted to make use of the natural tiering inthe garden so we built two ponds with an interconnecting waterfall.

The spoil was dug out with a mini-digger and the pond lined with Butyl liner. Sandstone was used for the rockery stone and the waterfall. We installed a discretely hidden pump and filter system with all the necessary pipework.

Finally we filled the pond, tested the pump and filter system and brought in some reeds and grasses to complete the project.

Fish Pond - Shrewsbury, Shropshire

We were called in to renovate and clean these beautiful Koi ponds in Shrewsbury.

When large Koi are involved it is imperitive that the fish are disturbed as little as possible. If fish are held in holding tanks, they should be returned to the pond the same day if possible.

Here we managed to completely clean three ponds, renovate the hosing and replace a pond pump all in one day!

Fish Pond - Much Wenlock, Shropshire

The customer had recently moved to this property and needed a large Koi pond building in preparation for the transfer of the fish from their old address.

There was no access for a mini-digger so the pond was dug by hand. The pond was lined and a pump, gravity filter system and UV filter installed.

Some of the spoil was used to build a large rockery and waterfall which has since been planted out with a mixture of heathers and alpines.

Large Fish Pond and Stream - Telford, Shropshire

This is probably one of the largest ponds in Telford.

This beautiful pond was originally built over 20 years ago and unfortunetely the liner had become irreparably damaged. Our task was to reline the pond and return it to its former glory.

We brought in two 15,000 litre mobile holding tanks and the fish were kept in these with oxygen pumps running for the duration of the project.

The water was then emptied and a new liner laid into position which required four men such was the size and weight of the liner.

The liner was secured into the bank and the rocks and shrubs put we put back into position.

Finally the fish were reintroduced to the pond and not a single fish was lost during the process.

Small Fish Pond - Whitchurch, Shropshire

As part of a larger garden makeover, we installed a small 2m diameter fish pond.

Small fish ponds of this size are only suitable for Goldfish, Shabumkins and smaller varieties of Orfe and Tench. Larger fish and Koi in particular need a minimim depth of 3'.

This small pond was constructed in under two days. We used a Butyl liner and sandstone rock for the waterfall and pond surround.

A small pump feeds a compression filter hidden in the rockery and an adjuster tap allows the customer to change the flow of the water down the waterfall if required.

Large Fish Pond - Ellesmere, Shropshire

The size of your new pond will be dictated partly by the size of your garden. A small pond in this huge garden would not have looked right.

This 5m x 2.5m fish pond was dug to 3' deep (the minimum depth for Koi carp). The pond was dug with shelves to allow for marginal planting. Smaller fish will also tend to swim around shallow shelves so you get to see more of your fish.

We installed a Butyl 1mm liner and the liner was held down with Welsh granite rock mortered to prevent leaks.

A low maintenance pump and filter were fitted and a sump was dug to allow drainage from the filter waste sump.

We added lillies and marginal planting to the pond and various heathers and grasses were planted in the surrounding borders. Block pave edging was concreted around the borders to highlight the pond within the garden as a focal point.

We then introduced Koi, Goldfish, Orfe, Tench and Shabumkins to their new home.

Small Fish Pond - Telford, Shropshire

This small fish pond was renovated in a single day as part of a garden makeover project.

The old stone was removed and the pond was cleaned out and relined. The existing weathered sandstone was concreted around the pond, and a new pump and filter system installed.

The result is a new pond that does not look new.
